DETROIT-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched its Time Division Multiple Access personal communications services network in Detroit, using infrastructure equipment supplied and installed by Lucent Technologies Inc.

The new system has advanced services including caller ID, paging, e-mail, and voice mail messaging, as well as traditional features such as call waiting, call forwarding and three-way conference calling.

AT&T Wireless is offering a dual-band/dual-mode smart phone that allows customers to roam while traveling between digital and analog service areas at the AT&T roaming rate of 60 cents per minute.

Detroit customers also can take advantage of the AT&T Anytime/Anywhere Offer to get their home airtime rate in any select AT&T market in America until 2000. Through the offer, a local call will cost the same in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles as it does in Detroit, said AT&T.

Lucent Technologies provided AT&T Wireless’ TDMA infrastructure in Chicago, St. Louis and Cleveland, as well.
