RICHARDSON, Texas-Siemens Wireless Terminals began delivery of its first digital handset, the g1050, which features a high-resolution graphic display, noise-canceling microphone and voice memo for recording brief messages.
The Global System for Mobile communications-based phone initially will be available through personal communications services operators Omnipoint Communications Inc. and Powertel Inc. in select cities.
Standard features include a data port for faxes and e-mail, a lithium ion battery that provides 105 minutes of talk time and 30 hours of standby time-with an extended battery option that provides 210 minutes of talk time and 60 hours of standby time-and GSM Phase 2 features like caller ID, call blocking, call forwarding, conference calling and short message service, said the company.
Powertel will sell the phones for $159, but is running a $99 special while supplies last, said Kristine Ryan of Siemens Wireless Terminals.
