INTERDIGITAL SIGNS TO SUPPORT SAMSUNG B-CDMA FIELD TRIALS

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-InterDigital Communications Corp. announced it signed a technology and product engineering and test site support agreement with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. The new agreement will cover Samsung’s field trials and advance deployment of telecommunications equipment using InterDigital’s Broadband Code Division Multiple Access technology.

Samsung is conducting field trials of its equipment early next year in several locations in Asia and Africa. Samsung estimates the wireless local loop market will reach 200 million subscribers by 2005.

InterDigital will support the Samsung field trials by providing certain planning, field installation and equipment design services, and values the pact at $500,000.

“Samsung’s aggressive deployment of B-CDMA technology-based equipment will greatly benefit InterDigital as we prepare for commercialization of our new wireless local loop product, TrueLink, in 1998,”said Mark Lemmo, executive vice president of InterDigital.

InterDigital plans to begin TrueLink product field trials next year and to commercialize the product in late 1998.
