SAN DIEGO-Continental Express Inc. signed a multimillion dollar contract to purchase 750 OmniTracs satellite mobile communications systems from Qualcomm Inc. over the next five years, Qualcomm announced.
Continental Express, an irregular route general commodity common carrier, plans to equip its entire fleet of trucks with the system, Qualcomm said.
OmniTracs is a data and tracking system that is integrated into a company’s business system to streamline load exchange, driver payroll and client billing. Continental Express purchased the systems “to fulfill increasing requests from drivers to offer the technology,” said the company.
“Our drivers will be able to replace time previously spent on pay phones with quality resting time in their trucks,” said Andrew Boyd, vice president of finance for Continental Express.
