ZIPLINK JOINS PAGER WATCH EFFORT

NEW YORK-ZipLink L.L.C., Lowell, Mass., announced Jan. 8 it has been named exclusive Internet and enhanced one-number service provider for the new Beeperwear pager watch offered by MTX Paging Products L.L.C., a joint venture of Motorola Inc., Schaumburg, Ill., and Timex Corp., Middlebury, Conn.

Once activated, the Beeperwear watch can be configured to receive alphanumeric paging messages on a local or nationwide basis by means of an exclusive agreement with SkyTel Corp., a subsidiary of Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp., Jackson, Miss.

Beeperwear stores up to 16 personal messages and can support and will receive up to three information services providing news, sports and entertainment headlines and information on the watch.

The pager watch is available at selected retailers in Los Angeles and San Francisco at a suggested price of $130. A nationwide introduction is scheduled for sometime during the first quarter.

The MTX agreement with ZipLink allows the Beeperwear watch to provide instant notification that an Internet e-mail document has been received.

The alert includes the sender’s e-mail address and the time, date and subject of the message. ZipLink also enables the Beeperwear watch to provide a single number as the access point for voice mail, fax mail, Internet access, e-mail, long distance and conference calling and instant location and follow-me services.

“While Beeperwear itself is a unique form factor, ZipLink provides the added communications functionality that ties the Internet and the telephone to the Beeperwear pager watch,” said Dudley Coker, president of MTX.
