Bell Atlantic Mobile

Bell Atlantic Mobile named Jack Plating executive vice president and chief operating officer. Plating will be responsible for the daily operations of the company’s six regional markets from New England to northern Georgia. Plating joined Bell Atlantic Mobile in 1991 and has been president of the company’s New England and upstate New York region for the past two years. In his new role, Plating also will be responsible for the operations of Bell Atlantic Paging and Bell Atlantic Mobile’s marketing organization.

INTEK diversified

Intek Diversified Corp. appointed two senior executives of Securicor plc, the company’s majority shareholder, to its board of directors. Roger Wiggs, Securicor’s group chief executive, and Michael Wilkinson, financial director of Securicor’s Communications Division, will join the Intek board, bringing the number of directors up to eight. Wiggs, a lawyer by training, is replacing Dr. Edmund Hough, who retired. Wiggs has worked for Securicor more than 30 years, holding a number of executive positions, including managing director of Securicor International Ltd. He was elected deputy group chief executive in 1985 and group chief executive three years later. Wilkinson, a chartered accountant, is an addition to the board of directors. He began his career with the company as chief accountant of Securicor Granley Systems Ltd. He was appointed financial director of Securicor’s Business Services Division in 1987 and promoted to his current position in 1992.

US Unwired

Scott Behuniak has joined US Unwired as sales operation manager. In his new role, Behuniak will be responsible for operations in the company’s personal communications services markets. Prior to working for US Unwired, Behuniak was with PrimeCo Personal Communications L.P., where he provided competitive analysis and market research for all PrimeCo markets, developed price modeling and a demographic database and was a core team member in launching the Houston market. Most recently, he developed and implemented strategies and methods to increase sales through indirect channels. US Unwired also named Bill Coker director of PCS. Coker will be responsible for directing network buildout, daily operations and sales in 27 markets. He recently managed the launch of US Unwired’s service in Lafayette and Baton Rouge, La., and Beaumont, Texas. Coker has 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He was previously the vice president of Celular de Telefonia, SA de CV, providing wireless service in northeast Mexico. Prior to that Coker was a regional sales manager for PrimeCo’s operations in Houston, and has been a limited partner and general manager for a cable television system.

Kenwood

Kenwood Communications Corp. promoted Joe Glassett to the newly created position of operations manager. He will be responsible for commercial, amateur and international operations, which includes sales, marketing and technical support, as well as credit and collections and all related administrative functions.

PCIA

The Personal Communications Industry Association has appointed Anne Riser its director. Riser previously was director of development at the Armenian Assembly of America and the director of member services at the National Association of Insurance Brokers.

Ortel

Ortel Corp. announced it has reorganized into three company units-worldwide sales, operations and waferfab activities-and has repositioned its executive management team. Ortel said its product focus will remain on the broadband, wireless and satellite communications market sectors. The following management changes were announced: George Holmes has been promoted to vice president of worldwide sales; Bill Moore, vice president, has been appointed general manager of the broadband communications sector; John Rinks has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the satellite communications/government business sector: Norman Kwong, vice president, has been appointed general manager of the telecom business sector; and Larry Stark, vice president, will spearhead the company’s worldwide strategic marketing activities.
