PALO ALTO, Calif.-Watkins-Johnson Co. increased its production capacity with the purchase of Samsung Microwave Semiconductor Inc., the company said.
Watkins historically produced semiconductor devices primarily for its own use, but began offering its products to external customers last year.
The Milpitas, Calif.-based Samsung operation will become part of Watkins’ Wireless Products Group, currently based in Palo Alto, although Watkins plans to gradually transfer its semiconductor manufacturing operations to Milpitas.
A nonexclusive license to manufacture Samsung Microwave Semiconductor products and service its customers was included in the agreement, the terms of which were not disclosed.
