BOULDER, Co.-CellPort Labs Inc. announced the third-generation version of its in-vehicle wireless data connectivity solution called C/P Connect. The new version of the platform pre-integrates a global positioning system receiver and choice of wireless airlink transceivers.
“We’ve taken C/P Connect to the next level of integration,” said Tom Kubancik, director of business development for data technologies. “Every link can now be internally integrated.”
Originally called MobileWeb, C/P Connect is designed to be an embedded, programmable communications gateway between the airlink environment and the vehicle network environment. It provides the final link of connectivity to vehicles by offering various gateway choices combined with intelligent data handling and standard protocols. The product supports several wireless data airlinks, including Cellular Digital Packet Data, spread spectrum, packet radio and four mobile satellite options.
According to Kubancik, GPS was added because cellular location technology does not have its detailed accuracy and real-time transmission capabilities.
“Our experience with companies developing applications in the trucking, automotive, construction and precision-farming markets is leading us to accommodate a growing range of wireless airlinks as well as GPS,” Kubancik said. “Because developers are writing their applications to our open platform, rather than directly to the airlink transceiver, they are demanding a full range of options so they can `cherry pick’ the best one.”
Also, other modems and application software can be added to the product for plug-and-play capability.
