LONDON-Cable & Wireless plc said brisk sales during the holiday season helped its mobile telecommunications subscriber base surpass the 2 million mark.

The total number of customers among companies in which Cable & Wireless has shareholdings, is 9.6 million. When adjusted to reflect the size of the company’s holding in each business, the company’s share now exceeds 2 million, said Cable & Wireless.

The company has a 49-percent interest in the Australian telecom operator Optus, which has more than 1.5 million customers.
