MURRAY HILL, New Jersey, United States-Lucent Technologies Inc. introduced the initial elements of a new global wireless network architecture called Flexent.
Designed by Lucent’s Bell Laboratories, the Flexent architecture preserves carriers’ investments in Lucent’s Autoplex wireless systems. A new computer system, which controls smaller and less complex base-station hardware, will allow carriers to deploy services-including high-speed data-more quickly, explained the company.
The modular design of Flexent can accommodate a variety of wideband radio components, which the company believes are likely to become standardized as part of a global family of third-generation wireless systems.
The Flexent architecture is a flexible client/server environment, said Murray Hill, New Jersey-based Lucent.
Flexent network products available this year include an application processor, microcell base station and Ethernet interface node, added the manufacturer.
