MOTOROLA TO CUT STAFF IN CERAMICS OPERATION

NORTHBROOK, Ill.-Motorola Inc. said its Albuquerque Ceramic Products Operation will incrementally reduce its workforce by about 20 percent.

The plant produces ceramic components for radios, cellular phones and other electronic products. Motorola said it will begin reducing its workforce at the end of March by releasing contract employees, normal attrition, voluntary separations and layoffs.

“The reduction of the workforce in Albuquerque is a matter of maintaining our global competitiveness,” said a company press release. “The majority of products we manufacture have continuous pressure on the selling price. Structuring our manufacturing strategy to position the business to be profitable is the only responsible option to ensure the future of the plant.”
