SIEMENS WINS CONTRACT FOR NORWAY BASE STATIONS

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Norway’s mobile communications network operator NetCom GSM of Oslo awarded Siemens AG a contract valued at $21.8 million to expand and modernize its base stations in southern Norway.

Siemens Public Communication Networks Group plans to upgrade the base stations in NetCom’s Global System for Mobile communications network, used by around 420,000 subscribers, by February, the company said.

Mobile phone use is more widespread in Norway than in most other countries, said Siemens, with more than 38 percent of the country’s population having access to a mobile phone. By comparison, in Germany approximately 10 percent of the people have access.
