WARSAW, Poland-Four satellite network operators joined the GSM MoU Association during its annual meeting in April in Warsaw, Poland, according to the group.
Globalstar L.P., Iridium L.L.C., ICO Global Communications and ACeS were part of the 41 new members to join the association.
“The addition of four operators of satellite systems to our global GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) family will ensure that our customers will be able to stay in touch even in the most remote regions of the world,” said Adriana Nugter, chairman of the GSM MoU Association.
The association created the new satellite membership category after a special satellite interest group was formed in 1996 to coordinate all matters relevant to satellite and GSM technology cooperation. “This has paved the way for roaming agreements between terrestrial GSM networks and the fledgling satellite operators,” the association said.
