CUE ALLIES WITH ZIPLINK

NEW YORK-Cue Data Corp. formed a strategic alliance with ZipLink L.L.C. of Lowell, Mass., to provide nationwide Internet connectivity featuring seamless integration with Cue Corp.’s nationwide wireless messaging network.

Cue Data is part of Cue Corp., Irvine, Calif., which provides nationwide and regional messaging throughout North America using the FM subcarrier facilities of more than 600 radio stations. Cue’s paging distributors include AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Ameritech Cellular Services Inc., Bell Mobility and MobileMedia Communications Inc.

“The seamless integration with the Internet represented by this strategic alliance (with ZipLink) will facilitate development of a wide range of mobile data applications, especially those running on the new Windows CE devices,” said Tom Schaffnit, president of Cue Data.

This rollout also will enable Cue to support greater data transfers to billboards and other kinds of outdoor read-outs, like gasoline pumps. The result is that dynamic displays using text, graphics, video clips and sound files will be able to be programmed remotely.

The initial application will allow lottery jackpot amounts displayed on billboards to be changed from anywhere in North America. Doing so would require a standard touch-tone telephone connected to the wireless network through a toll-free number.
