Building on its Element Activation suite of software products introduced last month, Bellcore has created new software product families to provide network monitoring and management solutions to the telecommunications industry.
Bellcore’s Element Activation products are designed to automate and streamline the process of activating service among various elements in carriers’ networks. The company’s new Service Assurance and Customer Network Management suites are designed to monitor service quality and network performance to help carriers retain subscribers.
The new software solutions also are designed to accommodate multivendor, multitechnology network environments, and feature graphical user interfaces that consolidate user interfaces for a variety of hardware from vendors, including DSC Communications Corp., L.M. Ericsson, Lucent Technologies Inc., Northern Telecom Ltd. and Tekelec, said Jeffrey Saadeh, a product specialist for Network Element Management Systems at Bellcore. Technicians only have to learn to use the Bellcore GUIs, instead of having to learn the programming language of each vendor.
Bellcore’s Service Assurance software solutions track and analyze service quality and help carriers identify problems before customers are aware they exist.
The updated version of Bellcore’s DCOS-2000 from the Service Assurance suite analyzes network traffic and availability for circuit-switched, signaling and data networks. With the implementation of local number portability, traffic on Signaling System 7 networks is expected to increase dramatically, and the new DCOS-2000 system automatically monitors network quality and capacity to help carriers detect potential problems before they occur.
The DCOS-2000 system also can analyze calling patterns to particular numbers, enabling carriers to respond to major customers such as Internet service providers more effectively.
