STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson was awarded a $78 million contract by the Wuhan Posts & Telecommunications Bureau to provide a complete Global System for Mobile communications network in Wuhan, China, the capital city of the Hubei province.
The contract marks the company’s first mobile communications venture in the province, Ericsson said. Scheduled to be completed by February, the Wuhan project includes delivering gateway mobile switching centers, mobile switching centers, base station controllers, radio base stations and other services.
“Hubei is the largest potential area in central China,” said Nael Salah, executive vice president of Ericsson China and general manager of the region. “And with this contract we’ve extended our cooperation with Hubei Posts & Telecommunications to include mobile systems.”
China is Ericsson’s largest market. Ericsson China employs more than 3,500 employees in 22 offices and is part of eight joint ventures.
