Stet Hallas Telecommunications S.A., Greece, went public 3 June through an equity offering by a holding company. Stet Hallas is 20-percent owned by Bell Atlantic Corp. of the United States.

Telecom Finland officially has changed its name to Sonera.

Telstra of Australia announced it will take a 10-percent equity stake in the WorldPartners Co. global telecom alliance, which includes AT&T Corp., KDD of Japan, Europe’s Unisource group and Singapore Telecom.

Telstra also unveiled a multimillion dollar satellite strategy that will extend the availability of telephony, data and Internet services to potentially all country customers before the end of 1998, said Telstra, which added that this affirms its commitment to rural Australia.

ScottishTelecom garnered a deal to implement a new cellular system for East of Scotland Water, according to ScottishTelecom. The system initially will link 500 mobile phones to the water authority’s control center, providing communications for its remote workers. The system will use the Vodafone GSM network to cover the authority’s operating area of 10,500 square kilometers.

Telesystem International Wireless Inc., Canada, announced its wholly owned subsidiary Dolphin Telecom plc, increased its ownership in the Teletrunk group of companies in Spain, one of two multiregional trunked radio operators in the country. Following a transaction with Iberdrola S.A., a major Spanish utility, Dolphin now has a 70-percent interest in Teletrunk Valencia S.A., 64 percent in Teletrunk Madrid S.A., 30 percent in Teletrunk Catalunya S.A. (Barcelona) and 15 percent in Teletrunk Aragon S.A. These operations currently have a total of about 5,000 analog subscribers, said TIW.
