The Australian Communications Authority said it prepared a recommendation to the Minister for Communications, the Information Economy and the Arts, for a nationwide reallocation of spectrum in the 3.410 GHz to 3.6 GHz band. The intent of the proposal is to support the government’s initiative to foster more competition.
Nexus Telocation Systems Ltd. announced it intends to acquire TagNet Pty. Ltd., a privately owned paging provider in Sydney, Australia, that uses Nexus’ two-way paging technology.
Finland
The Belgian Council of Ministers chose the KNT Temporary Association as the sole supplier for the country’s ASTRID project mobile radio network. KNT is a consortium made up of Belgian companies Kreutler N.V. and Telindus, and Nokia Corp. The ASTRID project is based on Nokia’s Trans European Trunked Radio communications system standard and Intergraph’s Computer Aided Dispatching System.
China
Motorola Inc.’s Asia Pacific Paging Networks division announced it passed all acceptance tests and received official certification for its FLEX nationwide multifrequency roaming system from China Telecom. The company also received the Signaling System Number 7 approval certificate for its Wireless Messaging Gateway paging terminal, which Motorola said can process more than 200 pages per second.
Italy
Reuters reported the Wind consortium, which recently was awarded Italy’s third mobile phone license, will launch service by March 1 next year. Wind is a joint venture between France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom of Germany and the Italian state electric company Enel.
Canada
Microcell Telecommunications Inc. announced its network operations subsidiary, Microcell Connexions Inc., will provide network services to CityFone Telecommunications Inc., according to an agreement the two signed. CityFone is the first British Columbia provider to offer Microcell’s services.
