NEW YORK-InterDigital Communications Corp., King of Prussia, Pa., will field test its new wireless local loop product in northwest Iowa this fall in conjunction with Pioneer Holdings L.L.C.
The agreement represents the first full U.S. field trial of InterDigital’s TrueLink fixed wireless system, which uses broadband Code Division Multiple Access technology.
In conjunction with Siemens AG, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Alcatel Alsthom SA, InterDigital is working to commercialize its new B-CDMA technology for use in wireless systems and products. Samsung launched a trial of B-CDMA technology in China in May.
Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative, MCI Communications Corp. and Long Lines Ltd. jointly own Pioneer Holdings, which delivers integrated, turnkey communications services to municipalities, utilities, cable and independent telephone companies, private businesses and universities in 10 states. Pioneer packages networks and services offered by its owners.
The Iowa pilot program, using frequencies in the personal communications services spectrum, will involve selected customers of North West Rural Electric Cooperative.
InterDigital said project participants will have access to wireline quality voice and high quality data transmissions.
