DULLES, Va.-Orbcomm Global L.P., announced it successfully launched eight satellites into orbit, bringing its little low-earth-orbit constellation to 20.
Orbcomm plans to offer satellite-based data and messaging services on a global basis by next year. Currently, the company provides service regionally in the United States and Canada.
The company said these additional satellites will increase the communications availability in the United States from nine hours a day to 17. With another eight satellites planned for the third quarter, Orbcomm would have enhanced coverage in the United States and also other temperate regions.
