SAMSUNG TO LICENSE UP.BROWSER

REDWOOD CITY, Calf.-Unwired Planet Inc. said Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. licensed its UP.Browser to integrate into the Code Division Multiple Access handsets of Samsung’s Dallas-based subsidiary, Samsung Telecommunications America Inc.

The deal calls for Unwired Planet to provide UP.Browser software releases and enhancements, enabling Samsung to provide new features as standards evolve, the companies said.

“As carriers develop strategies that require data services and a microbrowser, licensing UP.Browser will enable Samsung to lead with innovative data solutions,” said Peter Skarzynski, vice president of wireless sales at Samsung Telecommunications America.
