NEW YORK-The DDI Cellular Group, parent company of eight regional Japanese cellular carriers with a total of 4.4 million customers, has selected the INfusion Home Location Register from DSC Communications Corp., Dallas, for use in its new cdmaOne network.
DDI, which began providing 800 MHz cellular service in June 1997, launched cdmaOne commercially last month as a means of digital migration for its analog customers.
“Based on Code Division Multiple Access technology, DDI’s new network will draw on DSC’s [Interim Standard] 41 HLR systems for database support, subscriber information and flexibility to offer new, revenue-generating services,” DSC said in an announcement Aug. 5.
Established in 1984, DDI is Japan’s second largest telecommunications carrier, offering a variety of services, including long-distance wireline, a Personal Handyphone System and analog cellular.
DSC said it has supplied digital switching systems, intelligent network platforms and other products to DDI since 1985.
