JACKSON, Miss.-SkyTel Communications Inc. announced it is offering a prepaid alphanumeric paging package in addition to its prepaid numeric paging product launched last fall.
Prepaid alpha paging allows subscribers to pay for a set number of messages beforehand and renew as necessary. Two prepaid alpha packages are available. One features a Motorola Inc. WordLine pager, and the other a Beepwear pager watch. Both include a personal 800 number, custom greeting, Page Recall and 500 service credits good for up to three months. Other features such as nationwide service, Caller ID and operator dispatch on incoming pages also are available and at the expense of service credits.
Cost is about 5 cents per service credit. The company cited a Yankee Group report that found more than 17 percent of current paging users would like prepaid paging.
