SAN DIEGO-SecurFone America Inc. completed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic alliance and distribution agreement with Microwave Designs International Inc., a privately held wireless engineering company, and its affiliate MDI de Mexico S.A. de C.V.
The MoU calls for the companies to jointly develop and deploy new prepaid communications and Internet Protocol-based telephony services, as well as provide engineering and technical support services in primarily overseas markets. It also stipulates the companies may choose to participate as equity partners in some overseas operating entities when they are able.
MDI will resell SecurFone’s IP telephony products and services. MDI has provided turnkey wireless communications services in more than 40 countries, including the United States.
“Through the new MDI alliance, we believe we can provide real value helping overseas operators move beyond basic commodity transport services to pursue new high-margin service opportunities using the latest prepaid communications and Internet telephony technology,” said Paul B. Silverman, SecurFone chief executive officer.
