VLSI WARNS ABOUT RESULTS

SAN JOSE, Calif.-VLSI Technology Inc. last week said its third-quarter revenue and earnings per share will be lower than analyst estimates.

The company expects revenues for the third quarter ending Sept. 26 will be 5 percent to 10 percent lower than the $137.8 million recorded in the second quarter. The company also expects to record an associated charge against third-quarter earnings resulting from a work force reduction that was announced July 15, said the company.

“Orders and shipments for the company’s products have slowed in the current quarter in line with the general slowdown in the semiconductor industry,” said Al Stein, VLSI chairman and chief executive officer.
