CLEVELAND-Reltec Corp. said it plans to acquire Italtel Tecnomeccanica S.p.A., a subsidiary of Italtel S.p.A., which is a joint venture of Siemens AG and Telecom Italia S.p.A. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Italtel Tecnomeccanica makes switching frames for central offices, Siemens indoor wireless base station cabinets and power generator cabinets for internal use by Italtel.
Reltec said it plans to expand its outdoor integrated wireless base stations with Italtel Tecnomeccanica’s existing product lines. Reltec will add Italtel Tecnomeccanica’s 190,000-square foot, ISO-9001 certified facility-in Terni, Umbria (northeast of Rome), where 225 people are employed-to its existing European enclosure facility located in Coventry, United Kingdom.
In fiscal 1997, Italtel Tecnomeccanica had sales of approximately $50 million. Reltec expects the acquisition to be completed during the fourth quarter.
