Motorola Cellular Service Inc. announced it achieved operational and marketing certification to become a North American service provider of Iridium L.L.C.’s satellite communications services. MCSI will offer Motorola Satellite Series phones and pagers with the full range of Iridium services.

Nextel Communications Inc. launched enhanced specialized mobile radio service in Hawaii on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai. The network uses Motorola Inc.’s integrated Digital Enhanced Network technology. Nextel’s Direct Connect digital two-way radio feature functions between islands with no long-distance charges, said the company.

Xypoint Corp. demonstrated new location enhanced network services at the Personal Communications Showcase ’98 in Orlando, Fla. The new services, which include mapping, navigation, proximity information, tracking and fleet management capabilities, will support call centers, wireless carriers, AVL integrators and others needing location-driven applications, said the company. Xypoint also announced it will launch location-based call forwarding for wireless carriers during the first half of next year.

AT&T Wireless Inc. announced PocketNet mobile phone users now can receive and respond to AT&T WorldNet Service e-mail from their handsets. Users can view, forward or delete e-mail from the phone and send the messages to a fax machine to print, according to the company. Users can synchronize their personal computer-based e-mail address book and calendar with information stored on the phone, so changes need only be made once.

Nettech Systems Inc. launched the Nettech Developer Program, a support program for mobile application developers. The program offers developer partners-such as systems integrators, corporate developers and independent software vendors-various support options and marketing services under two customized programs. The Corporate Developer Program gives volume discounts, support and training to meet corporate IT organization needs. The ISV Developer Program extends increased product exposure and sales and marketing opportunities. The program is available to anyone purchasing Nettech’s software development kits.
