KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Sprint PCS introduced a handset with a built-in mouse, manufactured by Denso Wireless Systems America, and a headset from Plantronics Inc.
The Sprint PCS Touchpoint handset has a large display screen and a mouse to allow point-and-click navigation through menus and options. The Code Division Multiple Access handset has 98 entry locations that store up to 9 entries per location, allowing up to 300 phone numbers to be stored.
The standard lithium-ion battery provides about 3 hours of talk time or 48 hours of standby time. The phone weighs 5.2 ounces and measures 5.2 inches long by 2.1 inches wide and just under 1 inch thick.
The handset also offers auditory caller ID, so users can program distinctive ring tones to phone numbers, as well as a built-in scheduler. Available exclusively through Sprint PCS, the single-branded phone is manufactured by Denso near Carlsbad, Calif. The handset has a suggested retail price of $180.
The Plantronics headset uses microphone technology that filters out distracting background noise so customers can use the hands-free product in noisy locations such as restaurants, busy streets and factory floors with better call clarity, said Sprint PCS. The headset is compatible with many Sprint PCS phones, including the new Touchpoint, as well as the Samsung SCH-200 and the Nokia 2170.
