ERICSSON TO FUND TIW’S TELET BRAZIL NETWORK EXPANSION

MONTREAL-Telet S.A., the B-band affiliate of Telesystem International Wireless Inc., said it awarded L.M. Ericsson a three-year contract to supply its cellular network in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which initially will support 500,000 subscribers, said TIW. The contract is valued at $142.93 million.

TIW also announced Marcio Kaiser was appointed president and chief executive officer of its A-band operations, Telemig Celular Participacoes S.A. and Tele Norte Celular Participacoes S.A. Most recently, Kaiser was president and managing director of Oracle Brazil. Prior to Oracle Brazil, Kaiser spent more than 20 years with IBM Brazil and IBM Latin America.
