WEST POINT, Ga.-Powertel Inc. reported a net loss of $64.3 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, or $2.47 per share, compared with a net loss of $45.9 million, or $1.71 per share, during the same period last year.
For the first nine months, Powertel’s net loss totaled $179.8 million, or $6.76 per share, compared with a net loss of $63.3 million, or $2.36 per share, for the corresponding period last year.
Revenues and sales on a consolidated basis were $44.6 million for the quarter, compared with revenues and sales of $40.8 million during the second quarter of this year and $18.5 million during the third quarter of last year.
Powertel said it added 47,000 personal communications services subscribers during the quarter for a total of 228,000 subscribers. Average revenue per unit decreased slightly to $54.15 from $56.11 during the second quarter.
Monthly churn for third quarter was 4.5 percent compared with 4.3 percent during the second quarter. Non-paying accounts continue to be the primary driver of churn, said the company.
Powertel’s InterCel cellular division added 500 subscribers for a total of 28,000 subscribers. Revenue per subscriber was $34.96 compared with $36.81 during the second quarter.
