STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced expansion contracts with Singapore Telecom and Chongqing Telecom and the Hebei PT in China.
Ericsson plans to expand SingTel Mobile’s Global System for Mobile communications network to another 800,000 subscribers, under a contract valued at more than $35 million. SingTel’s network capacity is expected to serve 1.1 million lines before the end of the year, said Ericsson.
The Swedish manufacturer signed a $138 million contract with Chongqing Telecommunications Administration (CQTA) to expand the city’s GSM network for the fourth time. This is the city’s largest expansion project to date. Upon completion next year, Chongqing’s GSM 900 network capacity will exceed 1.6 million subscribers, said Ericsson.
The Ericsson joint venture, Nanjing Ericsson Communication, plans to supply the solutions within the contract to the CQTA network.
The deal with Hebei Post & Telecommunications Administration, valued at $109.5 million, includes the fifth phase expansion of the province’s GSM network and sixth phase of its Total Access Communications Systems network. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by June of next year.
