LUCENT TO DELIVER CDMA SYSTEM FOR TELESP IN BRAZIL

SAO PAULO, Brazil-Lucent Technologies Inc. said Telesp Celular, owned by Portugal Telecom, selected Lucent to build wireless networks based on Code Division Multiple Access technology in the metropolitan area and in interior of the state of Sao Paulo.

The award is subject to negotiation of final terms and conditions.

In the privatization of Telebras in July, Portugal Telecom won the license for the wireless region of Telesp Celular, covering the state of Sao Paulo, which is the largest cellular market in Brazil.

Lucent said it will provide its 5ESS AnyMedia switching platform, and Autoplex System 1000 Series II cell sites, as well as technical expertise and support services.
