CommSite International Inc. announced company founder Wesley McGee has assumed the role of chairman and Timothy Haley was appointed president and chief executive officer. Haley has experience in financial performance and administration, sales and marketing, employee development, client service and technical project leadership, said the company. Until CommSite, his career had focused on the carrier side of telecom at Nextel Communications Inc., McCaw Cellular Communications Inc., Metromedia/ Southwestern Bell and Motorola Inc.
Bell Atlantic
Raymond Smith, Bell Atlantic Corp.’s ranking executive for almost 10 years, will leave the company at the end of the year. Ivan Seidenberg, current chief executive officer, will become the company’s chairman. Smith is leaving to become chairman of Rothschild North America Inc. His departure is the culmination of a succession plan made when Bell Atlantic merged with Nynex Corp.
Alison Brotman was named associate general counsel of Bell Atlantic Mobile. She had served as the company’s regional counsel since 1992. Her career with Bell Atlantic began in 1990, when she went to work at corporate headquarters as an attorney for international transactions. Previously, she worked in the general corporate and international practice of Dechert Price and Rhoads, in the firm’s Philadelphia and London offices.
Orange
Andreas Wetter was appointed chief executive officer of Orange Communications SA and is expected to assume his new responsibilities early next year, the company said. Wetter joined Orange from the COOP group in Switzerland, where he is president and CEO of Radio TV Steiner AG and a member of the executive management board of Simeo Holdings AG. Prior to joining COOP in 1996, Wetter was a manager for start-up cellular terminal company Ascom Audiosys AG. He also has held positions with Prime Computer Computervision AG and the Moor Group.
Lockheed
Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications unveiled a new business structure and management team in preparation for the closing of its proposed $2.7 billion merger with Comsat Corp. Global Telecommunications was formed in August to concentrate on the telecom services market. The company hopes to meet this goal through four operating units: Global Transport Services and Operations, Personal Communications Systems, Global Network Solutions and Network Systems Development. Claude Burgio was appointed president of the Global Transport Services and Operations unit. Michael Williams will continue as vice president of the Personal Communications Systems unit. Brien Morgan will head the Global Network Solutions business unit as vice president and general manager. Finally, Stanton Sloane, vice president and general manager, will head up the Network Systems Development unit. Other appointments include James Beitchman, president of Global Telecommunications’s Regional Operations.
Geoworks
Geoworks Corp. said it named Stephen Baker vice president and chief financial officer, replacing David Thatcher, who was named chief executive officer in June. Baker joins Geoworks from Lucent Technologies Inc., where he was vice president of finance and controller for the Service Provider Messaging Group.
