FORD AND MERCURY MODELS GET VEHICLE-MESSAGING SYSTEM

DALLAS-Protection One Mobile Services Group said it will provide mobile emergency response and other live operator and automated services on Visteon Automotive Systems’ new vehicle emergency messaging system, called VEMS.

VEMS combines Global System for Mobile communications location-identifying technology via satellite and cellular telecommunications networks to aid motorists needing emergency or roadside assistance, said the company. Features include notification of air-bag deployment, stolen-vehicle tracking and turn-by-turn route guidance.

The system is available on all 1998 and 1999 models of the Ford Taurus and Explorer and the Mercury Sable and Mountaineer.
