As I debate again this year whether to actually make mashed potatoes to bring to the family Thanksgiving dinner or whether to buy them and pretend I made them (you cannot use this to blackmail me because my husband already spilled the beans to his family, and my family is satisfied with whatever appears on their plates), it is once again time to reflect on what we at RCR are thankful for this year:
I am thankful I work in an industry that helps people talk to each other, whether it is a stranger calling 911 for a person who has been in an accident, a son calling his mother to say he is having fun on a hike in the wilderness or someone calling a broker to buy some stock that has reached a new low.
I am thankful RCR only has to report on the 3G controversy, not arbitrate it.
I am thankful for former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt. Love him or hate him, he was a catalyst to this industry and led not only this nation, but many countries around the world, into a new competitive telecom era.
I am thankful RCR has new photos of various industry leaders.
I am thankful Hurricane Georges did not hit Florida during PCS ’98. I’ve experienced my fair share of bad weather-been in a storm where seven feet of snow dumped, had my car carried into a river that had been a street an hour earlier and have experienced 100-degree below zero temperatures. Regardless of the disappointment some people felt about the PCS show being overshadowed by the threat of a hurricane, it could have been much, much worse.
I’m thankful the stock market is above the 9,000-mark again.
I’m thankful last week’s meteor showers were a non-story for RCR.
I’m thankful the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl in Qualcomm Stadium (although I would be just as thankful if they won in Ericsson Stadium).
