ADC Telecommunications Inc. completed its acquisition of Teledata Communications Ltd. for $15.75 per share, or about $200 million in cash.

Omnipoint Communications Inc. launched commercial roaming with NPI Wireless of Traverse City, Mich. NPI operates Global System for Mobile communications services in the northern Michigan cities of Traverse City, Petoskey and Cadillac. The company plans to launch service in Muskegon, Mount Pleasant and Big Rapids by the end of the year. The pact allows both companies’ customers to roam seamlessly into each other’s markets. Omnipoint has operational roaming agreements with nine carriers in North America and 65 carriers overseas.

American Mobile Satellite Corp. announced National Carriers selected its terrestrial/satellite-based multi-mode mobile messaging service. Under terms of their agreement, National Carriers will deploy some 1,000 units in its refrigerated trucks.

Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group announced personal communications services operator Intelos launched Code Division Multiple Access service using Motorola equipment in West Virginia.

Raytheon Co. and Angel Technologies Corp. signed an agreement to jointly pursue stratospheric broadband wireless business opportunities, said the companies. Raytheon has been working with Angel since 1996 to demonstrate the feasibility of broadband wireless services using High Altitude Long Operation (HALO) aircraft. The teaming agreement formalizes the companies’ partnership to extend these activities into a business venture. Angel’s HALO aircraft design-HALO-Proteus-will carry a large antenna above a city’s center to deliver high-speed communications services, augmenting terrestrial towers and orbiting satellites. The aircraft will fly fixed patterns in the stratosphere, said Angel.

SecurFone America Inc. said it signed a letter of intent with TeleData World Services Inc. for the latter to buy rights to SecurFone’s Network Services and handset solution prepaid wireless products. SecurFone said it plans to focus on Internet telephony products and services and engineering large-scale global wireless systems, and in June announced plans to acquire SCIES Inc.
