DALLAS-JP Systems Inc. introduced a software package called InfoBeam that allows users of 3Com Corp.’s Palm III organizers to access Web-based information via an infrared link to an AccessLink II pager.
Users enter information requests on the personal digital assistant and “beam” the request to the pager-made by Glenayre Technologies Inc.-which acts as a wireless modem, sending the request over SkyTel Communications Inc. two-way networks to a JP Systems server. The server retrieves and sorts the information from the Internet and sends it back to the pager.
