Convergys extends pacts with carriers
CINCINNATI-Convergys Corp. said it extended its contracts with L.A. Cellular and Houston Cellular well into the next century.
Convergys’ new outsourced billing and customer care contract with L.A. Cellular will run through 2007, and the Houston Cellular contract will run through 2004.
Features included in the new billing and customer-care contract extensions include advanced switch management, a flexible document presentation system, a bill image retrieval system and electronic bill presentation via the Internet.
Cable & Wireless CEO Brown exits company
LONDON-Cable and Wireless plc announced that its Chief Executive, Richard H. Brown, will be leaving the company in January to take the position of chairman and chief executive officer of Electronic Data Systems in the Untied States.
Rod Olson is the acting chief executive until a new appointment can be made, said the company. Olson joined Cable and Wireless in 1976, and was deputy chief executive immediately prior to Brown’s leaving.
Motorola wins China contracts
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group announced it received two contracts by the China United Telecommunications Corp. valued at $22 million.
Under the contracts, Motorola will expand the Global System for Mobile communications cellular telephone networks in China’s Fujian and Shangdong provinces by deploying its M-Cell cellular base stations.
