MOTOROLA CLOSES PLANT

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group plans to shut down its plant in McHenry, Ill., that housed analog base station equipment manufacturing functions.

Sue Frederick, a spokeswoman for Motorola CIG, said the facility was opened in 1995 as a leased facility, and employees were notified earlier this month that the lease would not be renewed. Frederick said an industry shift to digital equipment contributed to a decision to consolidate the company’s manufacturing functions into Motorola-owned facilities.

The company is working with employees to identify other employment opportunities within CIG as well as other Motorola units.

The transition out of the facility will begin during the first quarter, and the company plans to completely vacate the facility be the end of next year, said Frederick.
