SAO PAULO, Brazil-Lucent Technologies announced it signed contracts totaling $340 million
with Telesp Celular in Brazil to build wireless networks based on Code Division Multiple Access in the state of Sao
Paulo.
Under the terms of the contracts, Lucent Technologies said it is providing its 5ESS AnyMedia switching
platform and Autoplex System 1000 Series II cell sites, as well as technical support services.
In all, the contracts
call for the installation of wireless CDMA networks to support more than 1.5 million subscribers in Sao Paulo and
select areas in the interior of the state, with approximately 400 cell sites being built.
The buildout is expected to be
completed by June, said Lucent.
