DSP REPORTS EARNINGS INCREASE

CUPERTINO, Calif.-DSP Communications Inc. announced its revenues for the 12-month period
ended Dec. 31, were $131.1 million, an increase of 61 percent compared with the same period last year.

The
company recorded net income of $29.4 million, or 70 cents per share, compared with $21.4 million, or 48 cents per
share in 1997. DSP’s pro forma income for the fiscal year was $33.2 million or 79 cents per share.

DSP said the
above results for 1998 include an expense in the fourth quarter of $750,000 for severance costs related to management
changes made during that time. During the fourth quarter, the company also repurchased approximately 1.9 million
shares of its common stock in its repurchase plan, at a cost of $12.9 million. The number of shares repurchased since
the plan was initiated in April 1997, is approximately 10.4 million, with a total aggregate purchase price of $97 million,
said DSP.
