IRVING, Texas-GTE Corp. reported its net income for the fourth quarter increased 21 percent to
$855 million, or 88 cents per share.
Net income for the year totaled $2.17 million, or $2.24 per share, compared
with net income of $2.8 million, or $2.90 per share, in 1997. Results included charges totaling $802
million.
Consolidated revenues and sales for the quarter were $6.8 billion, up 8 percent from revenues and sales of
$6.3 billion during the fourth quarter of 1997.
Wireless service revenues for 1998 totaled $2.7 billion, an increase of
5 percent from revenues of $2.56 billion during 1997. The company said it added 330,000 wireless customers last year,
for a total of 4.82 million customers.
