BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Several leading voice messaging companies in North America have
formed the TeleMessaging Industry Association, aimed at better educating the public about the benefits of voice mail
and messaging services, and thereby increasing their use.

Founding members include Ameritech Corp., Bell
Atlantic Corp., Bell Canada, BellSouth Corp., BC Tel, Comverse Network Systems, Conxus Communications Inc.,
Glenayre Technologies Inc., GTE Corp., Lucent Technologies Inc., PhoneLabs, SBC Communications Inc., Solopoint
Inc. and Unisys Corp.

According to Ellis Hill, president of Research First Consulting Inc. and executive director of
TMIA, the association’s goals are to increase positive awareness and usage of telephone answering voice mail, promote
the adoption and usage of voice mail-related, non real-time messaging communications and lobby key stakeholders on
matters affecting the industry.

“TMIA members believe that we can grow the industry and create an
environment that allows each company to compete in the larger overall market,” said Jim LaFollette, TMIA co-
