MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. announced it signed a three-year, $70 million
contract with Frontier Cellular to provide intelligent networking software and infrastructure equipment so Frontier
Cellular can expand coverage of its Code Division Multiple Access-based wireless networks.
The technology
provided by Lucent will enable Frontier Cellular to offer services such as short message service, wireless number
portability, stand-alone home location register and flexible alerting.
Under the terms of the contract, Frontier
Cellular also will have the option of purchasing additional software for services such as virtual private network, over-
the-air service activation, calling name display and wireless toll free, said Lucent.
Frontier Cellular covers more
than 34,000 square miles in upstate New York.
