Richard Bryan is the new senior vice president of sales and marketing at
Marketwave Corp. Bryan previously worked for AT&T Wireless Services Inc. as its vice president of sales and
marketing, in charge of staff, national accounts and retail sales.
Kansas Cellular
Kansas Cellular announced
several promotions. Tom Bryan was named director of sales for eastern Kansas; Larry Stotts was named director of
sales for western Kansas; Joe Lock was appointed director of marketing; Cara Walker is now director of wholesale
services; Cathy Heiger has been named product manager of cellular and paging services; Rick Gruber is now product
manager of Internet services; and Ivan Kuhn has been appointed product manager of CLEC (competitive local
exchange carrier), long-distance and switch services.
Strategis Group
The Strategis Group promoted Peter
Nighswander to vice president of the cellular/personal communication services division at the company’s Washington,
D.C., headquarters. Nighswander currently heads the cellular/PCS consulting and publications division at the company.
He previously consulted with other companies on such matters as due diligence, product positioning and consumer
research.
Teledesic
Teledesic L.L.C. named Kerry Larson, a former senior AT&T Wireless Services Inc.
executive, vice president of people development. He will be responsible for all of Teledesic’s human resources
functions. Teledesic also promoted Sami Hinedi to vice president of systems. Formerly director of communications
systems, Hinedi worked on various aspects of the company’s system design. In his new role, he will be responsible for
Teledesic’s overall systems team. Before joining Teledesic, Hinedi was a technical group supervisor for the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory’s digital signal processing research group.
Tecore
Tecore appointed Steve Chen vice
president of marketing. He will be responsible for marketing, sales product management and business development
activities. Prior to joining Tecore, Chen was the vice president of marketing in the cellular infrastructure division of
DCS Communications.
CommNet
CommNet Cellular Inc. promoted Daniel P. Dwyer to president and chief
operating officer. He joined the company in 1986 and most recently served as its executive vice president. Andrew J.
Gardner was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer. He has been with the company since
1990 and previously served as its senior vice president and controller. The company promoted David S. Lynn, formerly
its senior vice president of network operations, to executive vice president of the same group. CommNet also promoted
Randy L. Lazzell to vice president and controller.
AMSC
American Mobile Satellite Corp. named Dan Croft to
the newly created post of vice president of messaging services. He will be the principal architect of the company’s two-
way, interactive messaging strategy. Most recently, Croft was senior vice president at Technology Solutions Co. He
also has held positions at Centel Cellular, Motorola Inc. and U.S. Cellular.

Associates announced Steven H. Maxwell joined the company as an associate. He will serve clients in the software,
interactive multimedia and wireless telecommunications industries. Maxwell came from Lightbridge Inc., where he
spent four years as director of worldwide sales and business alliances.
LHS Group
LHS Group Inc. appointed
Jon A. Limbird executive vice president of corporate development. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of
worldwide product management at LHS. Limbird will be responsible for the expansion of LHS business through new
business ventures, investments, mergers and acquisitions.
VoiceStream Wireless
VoiceStream Wireless’ Arizona
division announced Charles Feather is its new general manager. Feather will oversee the company’s sales and
marketing operation in Phoenix, Tucson and all future expansion areas in Arizona. Feather had been with AirTouch
Cellular in San Diego and CommNet Cellular.
ArrayComm
ArrayComm Inc. announced the promotion of Dr.
Craig Barratt to chief operating officer. Barratt formerly served as the company’s executive vice president and prior to
that, he served as vice president of engineering. Barratt has extensive experience in research and design in electronics,
computer system hardware and software and signal processing. He has been with ArrayComm since its founding in
1992.
Wireless Systems
International
Wireless Systems International Ltd. appointed Stephen Ball to
operations manager at Wireless Systems International in Bristol where he will manage all aspects of the manufacturing
of the company’s newly launched multicarrier power amplifier. Ball was previously with 3Com Ltd. as a materials
manager.
SCC Communications
SCC Communications Corp. named Robert R. Cohen vice president of
government relations where he will manage SCC’s new Washington office and represent the company before Congress
and the Federal Communications Commission. Cohen previously held the position of vice president at National
Strategies Inc. Cohen’s experience also includes being a lobbyist for the Personal Communications Industry
Association and counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business under Sen. Larry Pressler (R-
S.D.).
WaveRider
Mike Orloff was appointed to director of international sales at WaveRider Communications
Inc. Orloff served most recently as vice president of marketing for Develcon Electronics Ltd. With more than 12 years
experience in high-tech management and sales, Orloff will be responsible for building worldwide distribution channels
for its data communications and Wireless Internet Networking products. WaveRider also appointed Jim Chinnick to
vice president of engineering. He will be responsible for the overall technology strategy, including managing research
and development. Prior to joining WaveRider, Chinnick was vice president and general manager of Harris Corp.’s
Wireless Access Division in Calgary. He’s also worked for NovAtel, Northern Networks, Foundation Electronic
Instruments and the Communications Research Center in Ottawa.
LCC
LCC International Inc. appointed its
chief financial officer, Richard Hozik, to senior vice president in charge of the company’s tower business. He will also
assume responsibility for the management and operations of LCC’s subsidiary, Microcell Management Inc. Prior to
joining LCC in 1995, Hozik was a senior vice president and CFO for J.E. Robert Co., a real estate investment
management company. Al Grimes, Roy (Cotton) Market and Joe Croft all left Microcell recently to pursue other
interests.
Nextel
Nextel Communications announced Robert L. Johnson Jr. is now president of the Mid-Atlantic
area. Johnson joins Nextel from PrimeCo Personal Communications L.P. where he was president of the Texas region.
He also spent 12 years at Bell Atlantic Mobile in various executive and general management
positions.
Celeritek
Celeritek named P. Michael Houlihan vice president and chief financial officer. Houlihan
worked 23 years at Hewlett-Packard Co. where he was group controller for the chemical analysis business.
Crown
Communications
Crown Communications named former chief operating officer, John P. Kelly, president and chief
operating officer, replacing company founder, Robert Crown. Kelly joined Cro
wn Communications in July 1998 from
Atlantic Cellular Co. John Powers, former senior director of sales and operations for the Cellular Infrastructure Group
at Motorola Inc., was named vice president of Crown regional markets. He will be responsible for establishing,
enhanci
ng and managing regional sales and operations offices. Holly Ernst Groschner joined the company as vice
president/legal counsel and will oversee the company’s legal, real estate, regulatory and licensing activities. She
previously worked at Downs Rachlin and Martin P.L.L.C as a director. Jed Fawaz also joined Crown Communications
as vice president of engineering and operations. He will be responsible for engineering of the company’s tower network
and developing its network operations center. Fawaz most recently served as vice president of engineering and
operations at Atlantic Cellular.
Digital Link
The founder and chairperson of Digital Link Corp., Vinita Gupta,
will re-assume the position of president and chief executive officer. Gupta founded the company in 1985 and served as
its president until 1996.
Brite Voice
Brite Voice Systems Inc. appointed J. Darrell Kelley to its board of
directors. Kelley is president and chief executive officer of the Economic Development Commission of Mid-Florida
Inc. Prior to that, he served as president of Sprint Corp.’s southern operations and CEO of Sprint/United Telephone’s
north central operations.
Centennial Cellular
Centennial Cellular Corp. announced Michael J. Small joined
Centennial as chief executive officer and Peter W. Chehayl joined as chief financial officer. Small previously was chief
financial officer for 360
