LUCENT INTRODUCES CHIP

CANNES, France-Lucent Technologies Inc.’s Microelectronics Group said its new digital signal
processor chip for wireless base stations can provide 50 percent better performance than competing products.

The
DSP16410 performs up to 800 million multiply and accumulate operations per second, said Lucent. The chip also uses
up to five times less power-.38 watts-and is less than one-third the size of the nearest competing chip. The result, said
Lucent, is reduced component and system costs of base stations and increased overall performance and
versatility.

Lucent said the DSP16410 can process more than 3.5 voice channels in the same amount of circuit board
area as competing chips, allowing base station manufacturers to fit more DSPs on the same size circuit board or
develop smaller circuit boards that use fewer DSPs.
