BOCA RATON, Fla.-Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc. joined the
Universal Wireless Communications Consortium in support of the Time Division Multiple Access-Global System for
Mobile communications interoperability agreement made between the UWCC and the North American GSM Alliance
L.L.C. in February, said Siemens.
The TDMA-GSM agreement is an effort to provide wireless customers
worldwide with global access to virtually all coverage areas. Siemens said the UWCC and the alliance also will work
together for the acceptance of multiple third-generation standards-accelerating the deployment of high-speed wireless
packet data services.
The UWCC is a consortium of more than 100 telecommunications carriers and vendors of
wireless products and services, and the alliance is a group of U.S. and Canadian digital wireless personal
communications services carriers.
