COURT GRANTS STAY OF CALEA LAWSUIT

WASHINGTON-A federal court granted a stay request from the telecommunications industry for a 60-day hold of a lawsuit against the federal government over the implementation of the digital wiretap act.

Briefs in the case were due last week, but on April 2 the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, the Telecommunications Industry Association and the Personal Communications Industry Association asked the court to hold off on the briefs for at least 60 days. The delay is meant to give the Department of Justice time to continue its negotiations with manufacturers on a software solution for implementing the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994.
