MELBOURNE, Fla.-AirNet Communication Corp. signed a contract with OnQue Communications Inc. to supply Global System for Mobile communications wireless infrastructure equipment, which is earmarked for deployment in the Fort Smith and Russellville, Ark., basic trading areas.
AirNet said it will supply a complete base station subsystem consisting of broadband base transceiver stations, AirSite backhaul-free base stations, a base station controller, transcoder rate adapter unit, and an operations and maintenance center for radio and ancillary equipment.
Glenn Ehley, vice president of sales and marketing for AirNet, said the AirSite base station communicates with the rest of the network using spectrum the operator has already licensed.
“This means the AirSite base station doesn’t require a T1 line or fixed microwave facility for backhaul … the savings can be enormous,” said Ehley.
