DALLAS-PageMart Wireless Inc. announced it will hold a press conference April 19 at the Comdex show in Chicago to unveil what it called a major alliance of paging industry leaders.
Although PageMart will not discuss the nature of the alliance, industry insiders speculate it will be a partnership to promote the use of ReFLEX chipsets as a means of wirelessly enabling handheld computers and personal digital assistants.
PageMart has been a leader in the effort to extend paging capabilities to PDAs, most significantly with its Synapse Pager Card for the PalmPilot organizer from 3Com Corp. The Synapse card was developed jointly by PageMart, Motorola Inc. and 3Com.
Motorola previously has made strides in making ReFLEX technology compatible with the Windows CE operating system, designed for handheld computers, among other devices.
